Writing Prompt: Dreams

Posted by zoeforce on November 14, 2008

Write a couple of reasons, some people believe their dreams are prophetic, and have relevance to their daily lives.  Do you believe your dreams have significant meanings, or are they just little stories your mind entertains you with, while your body and conscious mind are at rest?  Explain your hypothesis for believing either way.

Writing Prompt: Anniversaries

Posted by zoeforce on November 13, 2008

Writing Prompt: Write a poem to a loved one for your anniversary, or write a couple of really clever verses to make your own card.

On top of Veteran’s Day, I also celebrated my 19th Wedding Anniversary.  My poem to the man who has been the center of my life all these years.

Nineteen Years, No Way
Zoe Force

Our fortress of one,
began with love.
My heart you won,
and lifted like a dove.
With your tender embrace,
and loving grace.

Each day of the year,
I love you more my dear.
Never shedding a tear,
of worry or fear.
You’re always near,
honorable, and sincere.

Who could measure above,
you my love?
None I say,
no way.

Who loves you,
more than I do?
None I say,
no way.

Writing Prompt: Salute to Veterans

Posted by zoeforce on November 10, 2008

Tomorrow is Veteran’s Day, if you know any…. be sure to thank them for their service to our country.

Writing Prompt: Write a thank you letter to a Veteran you personally know, or write a generic letter to a group of veterans.  A few good places to send your letter, VFW, American Legion, a state Veteran’s hospital or nursing home.

While working at the New York Veteran’s Home we recieved letters from children at local schools.  One thing I failed to see, letters from adults…. giving their appreciation to Veterans, for services to our country.  The local VFW and American Legion members come in each year to commemorate Veteran’s Day.  Since all of the Veteran’s are terminally ill, and are unable to attend public ceremonies.  Please take a moment to mail out a letter, or drop it off at a nearby Veteran facility.  Tomorrow is the day to say… THANK YOU!

Writing Prompt: Letter to the President

Posted by zoeforce on November 5, 2008

It’s official, Obama is our 44th President.  History was/is the loudest sound I’ve heard in this election.  The first African-American elected, as President of the United States of America.

Writing letters to the President, is one of our privileges.  I remember writing my first letter, in the sixth grade, to President Ronald Reagan.  Asked for a portrait, and he sent me a wonderful picture of him and Nancy, in their riding attire.  Wrote also, asking him questions about the issues we discussed in Social Studies.  He assured me that my concerns, were also his.  That was so long ago…  I lost the portrait and his response letter, when I moved from one state to another, as a teen.

Today’s prompt:  Write a letter to President Obama, and ask him what he plans to do about issues you are concerned with.   Let him know where you stand on the issues, and request his stance with you.  The major issues are on his website, you can see where he stands.  Do you stand on those ideals?  If so, request that he follows through with his plans.  If not, request his consideration of an alternative solution.

When you send this letter out or another after the Obamas are settled into the White House, with that new puppy, ask for a family portrait.  You’ll be glad you did.

If you are a social studies teacher, please encourage your students to write a letter to their newly elected president.  It was a memorable moment, and rewarding experience for me.  Educating youth about their role in government as citizens, a must.
